“49 Days” : Open forum

49poster2

Two episodes of “49 Days” have been aired so far. We’re sure you’ve watched them on our blog or elsewhere.

What do you think? Anything you want to praise or gripe about? Please leave comments below.

Personal attacks on other actors are out-of-bounds. We are only interested in their acting in “49 Days”.

For convenience we’ll use the following abbreviations:

49D (”49 Days”), JYG (Director Jo Young-Gwang), SHK (Scriptwriter So Hyun-Kyung)
JHJ (as Han Kang), LYW (as Song Yi-Kyung), BSB (as Kang Min-Ho), NGR (as Shin Ji-Hyun), JIW (as the Scheduler), SJH (as Shin In-Jung).

Let us start the ball rolling with one pet peeve:

Who eats spaghetti with chopsticks? NGR! In Ep.1 when we see her doing that at JHJ’s winebar, we find that ludicrous. But then who knows? maybe Koreans eat spaghetti with chopsticks. Then in Ep.2 we see LYW also eating spaghetti with chopsticks, again at JHJ’s winebar. Doesn’t the winebar have knives and forks? How strange, considering it looks thoroughly Western. So we watch Ep.1 again, and we see the table laid with knives and forks. Then we realize that must be one of the clues that will lead JHJ to discover that NGR is actually in LYW’s body. Why doesn’t the director spend 3 seconds to explain that it is NGR’s whim to eat spaghetti with chopsticks? All he has to do is let NGR ask for chopsticks, even though there are forks on the table. This is OVERSIGHT of the first order on the part of the director and the scriptwriter. We run a JHJ website, so we know everything about 49D. But how could they expect an ordinary viewer to guess or remember something like this? Unforgivable! There are several close-ups of NGR’s mannerisms with her fingers, also LYW (with NGR in her). But this spaghetti and chopsticks thing should really receive some focus. Is the director JYG too overwhelmed to pay attention to little details like this? This is his directorial debut; shouldn’t he have done all his homework? Storyboard and all that? We’re disappointed – and apprehensive of how he will handle the rest of the drama. He’d better not mess up JHJ’s come-back project!

This open forum will be updated everyday, i.e. we will carry it forward, so you can leave comments anytime and also read others’ comments. So start praising or griping now!

Feel free to write in Chinese (we can translate.) As for other languages, we’ll try.

Lee Yo-won succeeds in taking off Queen Seon-deok image and transforms

Actress Lee Yo-won managed to take of the stern image of "Queen Seon-deok" and transformed into a silly character.

In the first episode of SBS drama "49 Days" Lee Yo-won played a dark character but in the second episode, after the soul of Sin Ji-hyeon (Nam Gyoo-ri) went into her she plays a more lively and positive character.

Especially in the scenes where she re-received her mission to come alive again by 'scheduler' Jeong Il-woo and in the restaurant, she completely threw off the image of "Queen Seon-deok" and became more tough and appetizing.

Meanwhile SBS drama "49 Days" is about a woman in a coma state that has 49 Days to live.

Cast of 49 Days Holds its Press Conference

The pretty (oh my god so pretty) cast of the upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama 49 Daysheld its press conference yesterday in preparation for its premiere next week. I’ve posted enough about the drama so I have nothing more to add substantively about the story, but fashion and chemistry-wise this press conference was a win and added to my interest in watching this drama.

First off, the ladies totally PWNED the gentlemen on the glamour front. Lee Yo Won, Seo Ji Hye , and Nam Gyu Ri were all stunning. I was particularly blown away by both Lee Yo Won and Seo Ji Hye’s ensembles, the former channeling whimsical softness and the latter a ravishing vision in red. All three of them were also battling it out for the shortest skirt of the year award, and Nam Gyu Ri wins that hands down. The men all get a blegh from me – while no one looks horrific, nothing stands out as memorable or particularly dashing. Bae Soo Bin’s mish-mash of elements into one outfit probably looks the worst, but I really wish Jo Hyun Jae got the dress up, not down, memo and swapped his jeans for a pair of trousers. And I have a serious urge to brushJung Il Woo‘s hair.

Royal Familly / 로얄 패밀리

PLOT

Han Ji-Hoon overcame an underprivileged childhood to pass the judicial examination and become an elite prosecutor. Kim In-Sook lives in the shadow of a Chaebol family, but finally becomes the head of a large corporation.
For Han Ji-Hoon (Ji Sung), Kim In-Sook (Yum Jung-Ah) is the woman who made his difficult life tolerable. Ji-Hoon grew up in an orphanage. He once became the prime suspect of a murder just because his teddy bear was found at the scene of the crime. During that time, Kim In-Sook sent the best lawyer to take up his defense. Ji-Hoon was cleared of the charges. Without Kim In-Sook, Ji-Hoon’s life would have been destroyed. Instead, Ji-Hoon eventually became a star prosecutor after he caught the criminal who committed the murder in which Ji-Hoon was the first suspect.
Kim In-Sook has lived in the shadow of the powerful JK family for 18 years. She is the daughter-in-law of a chaebol family, but ignored by her in-laws. Making matters worse, her husband died in a helicopter accident. In-Sook’s mother-in-law, Kong Soon-Ho, planned a conspiracy to make In-Sook appear incompetent and take custody over her son. The end result would have been Kim-In-Sook’s expulsion from the JK family.
Ji-Hoon watched In-Sook at her husband’s funeral. He was stunned to see In-Sook’s beaten down appearance. Furthermore, Ji-Hoon learned of her mother-in-law’s scheme to oust her from the family.
Ji-Hoon then set the goal to make In-Sook the head of the JK family. While he struggled to accomplish this goal, Ji-Hoon realized his feelings towards Kim In-Sook wasn’t from a sense of pity or compassion. Rather, Ji-Hoon was in love with In-Sook. Finally, he accomplished his goal of having her become the president of the JK group.
But at that time, Ji-Hoon learns of a homicide involving a black male. As he digs up more information on the case, the cluse all point to one person – Kim In-Sook. As he gets closer to the truth, the more he doesn’t want to know the truth …
