Rurouni Kenshin Live Action Movie

It seems that actor Takeru Sato (pictured above) has just been chosen to play the role of Himura Kenshin in an upcoming live action adaptation of the Rurouni Kenshin manga series.

Rurouni Kenshin ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999 and spawned a television anime series in 1996, a theatrical film in 1997, and two OVA series – the last of which was released in 2002.

A number of actors were in the running for the role of Kenshin but Sato was chosen as the producers felt that he was perfect for the role. According to the reports, there were plans back in the 90′s to make a live action version of the series but the special effects back then weren’t good enough to make a believable film.

Nobuhiro Watsuki (the author of Rurouni Kenshin) was also approached by Hollywood studios wanting to make and American version of the series but Watsuki turned them down citing the terrible Dragonball Evolution film that was put out by Hollywood a few years ago.
